As we plan our final summer vacations and fall retreats, the American Red Cross is working hard to insure our blood supply will meet the needs of our community. Jim Riehl’s Friendly Chrysler Jeep is supporting the Red Cross by holding a Blood Drive on Thursday, September 2 from 2:00-8:00 pm at the Warren location at the corner of 14 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.
When you donate during this drive, you have a wonderful opportunity to help those in need; children suffering with sickle cell anemia or leukemia, cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, newborns in neonatal intensive care units, and auto accident victims. The need for blood increases during holidays and summer months, as people are more apt to travel during these times and thus are at an increased risk for accidents.

As a "Thank You," when you come in to donate, you will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 Target gift card !

Here are some facts to consider when deciding to donate:
• The following 5 blood types are below the American Red Cross’ three day base supply: B negative, O negative, A negative, A positive and O positive.
• Blood donors can donate as frequently as every 56 days. A benefit from donating this often is that you receive a mini-physical once every two months.
• Each whole blood donation can help as many as three people. One unit is divided into three parts: red blood cells, platelets, and plasma.
• Statistics show that 25 percent or more of us will require blood at least once in our lifetime.

Engine Tune-Ups
Yes, today’s modern engines still need tune-ups. Although the tune-ups today are different than what was expected in years past, the tune up is designed to:

• Reduce Air Pollution

• Improve Fuel Economy To help ensure good performance and economy, we recommend that owners become familiar with the tune-up and maintenance recommendations for their vehicles.

Tune-Ups Include:
• Replacing Spark Plugs
• Scanning Powertrain Computer for Faults
• Checking Air Intake for Carbon Build Up
• Checking Fuel Injector Performance
• Inspecting Engine Mechanical, Electrical, and Emission Systems

Oil Changes
The oil is your engine’s life line. Impurities build up in the oil system unless it is changed on a regular basis, and most engines will consume some oil. Saving money on oil changes may cost more money in the long run.

Air Filter
Changing an air filter is inexpensive and easy. Not replacing it on a regular basis, on the other hand, can be very costly. A dirty air filter can reduce fuel economy by as much as 10%. With gas a $2.50 a gallon, you can have a 100% return on investment in less than 250 miles!

Brakes
Brake pads wear gradually and, therefore, you may not notice the change in braking performance right away. A vehicle with worn pads will still stop;, just not as well. The real cost savings may be in the brake rotors. Pads that have worn too far will damage the rotors, requiring them to be replaced, which can be costly. Brakes should be checked on a regular basis to monitor the level of wear.

Tail Lights
It is easy to ignore tail lights and brake lights because they are difficult to check by yourself. It is very important to your safety to let other drivers know what you are doing, and even more important today with distracted drivers.

Wiper Blades
Wiper blades should be changed yearly or more frequently if they are damaged or worn.Damaged or worn blades can be a real safety hazard by impairing your visibility and consequently reducing your reaction time. Wipers wear gradually, so it is difficult to notice the reduced visibility. Also, you may not think of them until the weather is bad and you need them the most.

Third Annual Pet Adoption

Jim Riehl’s Friendly Automotive Group in Clinton Township is sponsoring its Third Anual Friendly Pet Adoption event at Jim Riehl’s Cadillac Hummer Honda, located at the cross streets of Hall Road and Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township.

Each year, thousands of animals in metro Detroit are abused and abandoned. Jim Riehl’s Friendly Automotive Group is committed to help the community support animal adoption.

The event has helped place more than 90 pets, with this year’s goal set at 150 placements. Jim Riehl’s Friendly Automotive Group and Mid-Michigan Boxer Rescue are co-sponsoring the event on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. A wide variety of adoptable animals will be available, and families who attend can choose to adopt from puppies, kittens, adult dogs and cats, ferrets and reptiles. These pets are fostered by volunteers at different animal rescue organizations until the right family comes along to adopt them, and
that family could be yours.

Donations are welcome and are used to fund the various animal rescue organizations throughout the Detroit area.

The family atmosphere will also feature snacks, beverages, and activities for the whole family, including raffles and an auction of pet paraphernalia.

Leasing is Back…

Join Jim Riehl’s Friendly Cadillac Hummer Honda and the 97.1FM Ticket Chicks this Thursday, Sept. 10, from 4pm to 7pm for a special charity car wash to help Feed the Need in Macomb County.

Volunteers from the Macomb Food Program will be providing 97¢ carwashes (cash donations accepted) and collecting non-perishable food items to help feed the growing need of hungry families in Macomb County.

Be sure to grab a hot dog, bag of chips and bottled water for just $1.97 (all proceeds going to the Macomb Food Program) while you take a look at our all new 2010 Cadillacs and Hondas, including the all-new Cadillac SRX. Let us carefully hand-wash your car while you take a test drive with your next car, all while helping a worthy cause.

Donations will benefit the Macomb Food Program, which currently has 55 food pantries located throughout Macomb County that distribute emergency food to families in need.

Macomb Food Program Facts:

A $10 donation will provide almost 24 days of food (at three meals per day) for an individual.
A $50 donation distributes 350 pounds of food to agencies serving hungry people.
In 2008, over 35,008 households consisting of 90,783 individuals requested emergency food from the Macomb Food Program’s network.

The 5th Annual All Mopar Show

The 5th Annual All Mopar Show will be held Sunday, July 19 from Noon-4pm at Jim Riehl’s Friendly Chrysler Dodge Jeep, located on Lapeer Road (M-24), one block south of I-69.

Registration for the event, which is limited to Mopar, Jeeps, AMCs, etc, is from 9am-Noon. Registration fee is $12 per vehicle.There will 9 classes with awards to the top 18 vehicles, and dash plaques to the first 50 vehicles registered.
