We need your help... being Friendly
As we plan our spring and summer vacations, the American Red Cross is working hard to insure our blood supply will meet the needs of our community. Jim Riehl’s Friendly Cadillac Hummer Honda is supporting the Red Cross by holding a Blood Drive on Thursday, June 10 from 2:00-8:00 pm at Jim Riehl's Friendly Cadillac at the corner of Hall Road and Romeo Plank in Clinton township.
When you donate during this drive, you have a wonderful opportunity to help those in need; children suffering with sickle cell anemia or leukemia, cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, newborns in neonatal intensive care units, and auto accident victims. The need for blood increases during holidays and summer months, as people are more apt to travel during these times and thus are at an increased risk for accidents.
Here are some facts to consider when deciding to donate:
The following 5 blood types are below the American Red Cross’ three day base supply: B negative, O negative, A negative, A positive and O positive.
Only 5 percent of eligible donors across the nation donate blood, but the number of transfusions nationwide increases by 9 percent every year.
Blood donors can donate as frequently as every 56 days. A benefit from donating this often is that you receive a mini-physical once every two months.
Each whole blood donation can help as many as three people. One unit is divided into three parts: red blood cells, platelets, and plasma.
Statistics show that 25 percent or more of us will require blood at least once in our lifetime.
Without willing donors, the American Red Cross could not meet the blood needs of southeastern Michigan hospitals, especially during this vacation season. To schedule your time or to get more information, contact Lawaun Modrich at lmodrich@friendlyautogroup.com or call 586.983.4361.
